Meet Our CEO

Mr. Wayne Gates Chapman

The Board of Directors of Billie Hardee unanimously voted to appoint Mr. Wayne Gates Chapman as Chief Executive Officer in October 1999. Chapman, who has been with the organization since 1991, was promoted from Director of Operations and Fund Development.

Wayne completed his high school education at Hartsville High School and his undergraduate studies from Francis Marion University with a degree in Business Administration with a concentration in Management. Chapman began his career as a volunteer weekend houseparent and has worked in nearly every capacity of the organization. When I first began volunteering here at the Billie Hardee, I really did not have any idea that children could be such victims of so much horrific abuse and neglect. That is where I derive my passion from though, I believe that no child should have to live in the grip of fear as a result of someone not loving them.

Chapman has been instrumental in a number of innovative initiatives at Billie Hardee. They include several grant awards from The Duke Endowment, the Pee Dee Electric Trust, and the design and implementation of Family Centered Practice, Therapeutic Crisis Intervention and the on-campus school. Under his leadership, the organization has expanded to serve additional children in its residential and day treatment programs.

Chapman is active in the South Carolina Association of Children's Homes and Family Services where he served as President of the statewide organization for an unprecedented 2 terms. Chapman is also a member of the Darlington Kiwanis Club.

Over the years under  direction of Chapman's leadership the Billie Hardee Home for Boys has broadened its vision and services. Now what we know as Billie Hardee is much more than just a home for teenage boys in need, but also a ministry that reaches out and meets the needs children and families all over the state of South Carolina.

Wayne is married to Nicole Hardee Chapman, together they have two children, Hannah Nicole and Wayne Gates Chapman, II. The Chapman family is active at Central Baptist Church in Darlington.
